AVVBA Support to the USO Council of Georgia
In 2004, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association (AVVBA) Board of Directors approved the following Mission Statement in support of the USO Council of Georgia.
Mission Statement: To provide volunteers and cash donations to the Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport USO on a monthly basis in support of Operation R&R for military personnel traveling to and from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Donations are raised by way of a USO raffle conducted at the monthly membership meetings with the first $200 matched by our Association.

2010 (through June)
· Over 684 volunteer hours contributed during 12 work days at the USO.
· Donations of $2951 from USO raffles conducted at AVVBA luncheons.
2009:
- Over 1687 volunteer hours contributed over 25 work days at the USO.
- Cash donations of $4938 from USO raffles conducted at AVVBA luncheons.
- Donations of $2684.98 for food, drinks and supplies delivered to the USO.
2008:
- Over 1575 volunteer hours contributed over 25 work days at the USO.
- Cash donations of $6663 from USO raffles conducted at AVVBA luncheons.
- Donations of $1101.20 for food, drinks and supplies delivered to the USO.
2007:
- Over 1425 volunteer hours contributed over 24 work days at the USO.
- Cash donations of $5641 from USO raffles conducted at AVBA luncheons.
- Cash donation of $40,196.50 in partnership with IBEW LU 613 from proceeds of our Atlanta Braves “Support Our Troops” parking project.
2006:
- Over 1272 volunteer hours contributed over 23 work days at the USO.
- Cash donations of $6247 from raffles conducted at AVVBA luncheons.
- Support to the Bagram AB, Afghanistan USO:
-Bill Stanley served as a volunteer from April 16 to June 13.
-Tom Owens served as a volunteer from June 15 to July 10.
- Support to the Camp Buehring, Kuwait USO:
-Larry Taylor served as a volunteer from July 5 to September 1.
2005:
- Over 1253 volunteer hours contributed over 22 work days at the USO.
- Cash donations of $4144 from raffles conducted at AVVBA luncheons from March to December 2005.
- Members of the AVVBA deployed to Gulfport/Biloxi, MS during November/December 2005 as USO volunteers in support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief operations.
-Max Torrence and Rick Lester: November 12 to 22.
-Doug Handley and Chuck Leisure: December 10 to 14.
-Ron Miller and Tom Williams: December 14 to 23.
-Steve and Mary Bolen: December 26 to 31.

Representatives of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 613 present a check for $40,001.86 to the USO Council of Georgia as Soldiers returning to Iraq and Afghanistan look on. The funds were proceeds from a Support Our Troops project conducted during the 2007 Atlanta Braves season.
